It is safer than many other medications that are used every day such as penicillin and Tylenol.
The medication abortion actually uses two kinds of medication (mifepristone and misoprostol) to induce an abortion privately, safely and effectively in your own home. The abortion pill can be taken in early pregnancy, and it is an alternative to the in-office abortion procedure.
Day 1-
You will come into the office and have an ultrasound, basic lab work and a medical evaluation/exam. After completing consent forms, you will take mifepristone in our office and you will leave with instructions for completing the abortion process at home.
Day 2/3-
24-48 hours later, you will take the second medication at home. Because you have a 24-hour window to take this medication, make sure that you take it when you can be at home without any other obligations. Some patients will be given two doses of this medication because it can make the medication abortion more effective sometimes. After taking this medication, you will have bleeding and strong cramping while you pass the pregnancy. Some patients also experience nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. We will give you medication to help with pain and nausea.
Follow-Up Plan-
3-4 days after your office visit, we will text you a reminder to do a self-assessment. If you answer ‘NO’ to any of these questions, it is very important that you call us right away, especially if you did not have any bleeding or you feel like the medication did not work for any reason.
In 5 weeks, you will take the pregnancy test given to you at your office visit.

This suction procedure is very common, safe and short, normally 5 – 7 minutes. We offer sedation or local anesthesia with this procedure.
